About us-1

We started Albam in 2006 through a frustration with not being able to find the clothes we wanted to wear; well made, contemporary updates to classic menswear styles, using the best fabrics we could source and putting the attention on the details, fit and fabrics.

We were also fed up with the fashion calendar dictating when clothes would be ready, offering wool coats at the height of summer and shorts in January. We therefore tried to shift the focus so the clothes would be in store at the right time of the year.

The first style we made was our Classic T-Shirt which took twelve months to develop as we worked with a local knitter in Loughborough, a factory in Derbyshire and a dye house in Leicester to get what we felt was the perfect white t-shirt.

That humble t-shirt, our Classic T-Shirt, is now crafted in Portugal but is still on offer and remains one of our best selling styles to this day, but more importantly, the journey of learning from these experts set us on a path to only work with the best factories and to combine their passion and expertise into every garment we create.

Who we work with

When we started, we were lucky that there was a wealth of old factories in the East Midlands and they tended to be small family-run operations who were incredibly skilled and experts in what they did, and their expertise and handwriting helped to shape the utilitarian aesthetic of the brand.
From a sustainability perspective, our belief has always been to try to make garments that will stand the test of time and ultimately get better with wear. The sort of garment that is timeless and that you will be happy to go back to time after time.

Sustainability is an approach that runs throughout everything we do, but below are some of the initiatives we have in place.
  • Using sustainably sourced corozo nut buttons
  • Packaging is recyclable and made from recycled materials where possible
  • Utilising recycled fabrics and yarns where possible
  • Utilising organic or BCI accredited fabrics where available
  • Working with our dye houses to explore natural dye and low water techniques
  • Working with the mills to utilise deadstock fabrics
